Travel Pharmacy Tech Diaries

Hi, I'm Drica, a certified pharmacy technician. Here I share my journey and what I've learned along the way.

💗 My journey

I started in retail pharmacy, moved into inpatient hospital pharmacy, and then began taking travel assignments. Along the way I've also worked with pharmacy education organizations, including PharmTechEdu.com. More of my story is coming soon.

🏥 What travel techs do

Travel pharmacy technicians take short term assignments, often at hospitals, through staffing agencies. They support the pharmacy team with tasks like preparing and distributing medications wherever extra help is needed.

General steps to become a travel tech

Requirements vary by state and employer.

  1. 1Earn your pharmacy technician certification (for example, PTCB's CPhT).
  2. 2Get licensed or registered in your state, and check the requirements of states you want to work in.
  3. 3Build hands on experience. Many assignments look for prior retail and/or hospital experience.
  4. 4Connect with a travel staffing agency and prepare your resume and credentials.
  5. 5Review assignment details like location, schedule, pay, and housing before accepting.
